10/20/2023 – When God is silent
I am sure that when you pray to God, you and God discuss and cover a lot of topics. I am only saying this because I am using myself as the example, when I pray to God, I leave nothing off the table, we speak plainly. If you’re like me, I am sure you can relate on how our daily prayers look like, I pray for my wife and marriage, I pray for my children, my family, those in church, those who specifically requested prayer and so on, you get the idea. However, there are those deeper prayers request and petitions, where you purposefully concentrate all your strength to focus, not allowing yourself to be distracted, but to just humbly come before God’s presence, laying those concerns, petitions, and request before Him and wait for His response.
We are grateful for those times when its God’s pleasure to answer our prayers sooner than expected, or when He gives us encouragement during those waiting periods, to not lose hope. But how about those times when God is silent, what then?
Psalm 28:1-2
- To you, Lord, I call; you are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me.
For if you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit. - Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.
David expresses eloquently those feelings of isolation when there seems to be nothing but silence from heaven. We begin to doubt our faith, we begin to waver, we begin to sink in disbelief. Does this sound familiar? We have all been there many times. How does David respond to these times of silence? He simply worships God. There is something about worship that breaks strongholds of mental doubt, it strengthens our faith, it increases our belief. Today you maybe in a dark place, you feel isolated during this period of silence. Then take an example from David and begin to worship God.
Today consider how David regains his strength, he begins to praise God during a season of heavenly silence: Psalm 28:6-7
- Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.
7 The Lordis my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
So lift up your hands toward heaven and begin to praise the Lord.
