05/02/2024 – Christ is the Word of living God
John 1: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.
A good discipline that has been lost over time is that of memorizing passages from the Bible. It is beautiful to treasure this holy Word in our mind and heart, and to meditate on it in moments of trial, temptation, and need. But for the Word to work effectively in us and through from us it takes much more than memorizing it. It is necessary to live the Word. That’s what our Lord Jesus Christ did. He not only memorized the Bible, he not only quoted it truthfully, but lived it perfectly, to the point that He is called the Word of God. The Bible verses we memorize today over time we can forget. Our Lord Jesus Christ studied, lived, and taught God’s Word passionately every moment of his life. That is the passion that the Holy Spirit wants to impart to each of us so that we can understand and live the Word of God as Christ lived it. It is when we live it that we understand it and know God. We can then say as Job after having lived by faith amid his trials: I had heard about you, but now my eyes see you…
