09/22/2026 – How Can You Serve the Lord?
Scripture: Joshua 24: 18 And the Lord drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.” 19 But Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
Reflection: When Joshua challenged them to make a choice, the people affirmed that they would serve God. They were sincere in their intentions, but powerless in their ability to choose to serve God only. What made them powerless was sin. The sin that dwells in us makes us desire idols, and it makes us reject our God.
The only way you can become free from sin is to be delivered from it, and the only One who can deliver you is our Lord Jesus. You need a deliverer—a powerful Savior who can free you from the power of sin and death. There is a law of sin and death: we are born sinners, and therefore we sin. Sin leads to death. This is a powerful law against which our natural freedom is powerless. You need a deliverer to establish a new law in your life—the law of the Spirit of life! This new law declares that the Spirit of God will give you true life and empower you to desire God. The Spirit of God has broken the chains that enslaved you to sin. Now you serve God because you desire to do so!
