12/26/2025 – A Chosen Generation
Scripture: Matthew 1: 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
Reflection: As the New Testament opens with the gospel of Matthew, the first revelation we are given in the Bible about our Lord Jesus Christ is a detailed description of the genealogy of Jesus. One by one, the Bible lists the names of those people who participated in the divine purpose of the birth of our Lord.
God’s promises are eternal. Every birth in Christ is the fulfilment of a promise made long ago and faithfully kept through all generations. The birth od Christ seemed to most like another birth to a poor couple in the saddest of conditions, but it was in fact the culmination of a divine plan that developed perfectly over 42 generations.
It is very important to note that God’s promise to Abraham was much more than just his son. God’s promises are never limited by our circumstances or to the time of our lives on this earth. One of the reasons the promise was a son is that God intended to extend His promise through generations. When God promised Abraham a son, His promise was not limited to the physical existence of that child. Abraham may have felt satisfied to enjoy raising a son and grandchildren for a limited time, then passing on with only the satisfaction of a temporary and passing joy to be stored in the memory of time for eternity. But the promises of God are NEVER LIMITED. His offers are not for a limited time. Christ is eternal and we are eternal in Him!
