10/01/2025 – Turn the Other Cheek

Eddy De La Hoz   -

Scripture: Matthew 5: 38 β€œYou have heard that it was said, β€˜An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

Reflection: A good soldier knows when to overlook offenses. To de-escalate means to reduce the intensity, seriousness, or scope of a situation, especially one that is tense, dangerous, or potentially violent.

We must realize that the Lord commands us to suffer offenses that come to us in the will of God and can lead to escalation.

Turning the other cheek is a metaphor for non-retaliation and the willingness to endure further insult rather than seeking revenge. This action symbolizes the rejection of the cycle of violence and retaliation. It reflects the character of Jesus Himself, who, when reviled, did not retaliate. This teaching is a call to embody the kingdom values of humility, patience, and love, even towards our enemies. This is not a strategy for surrender, but the greatest strategy for victory.
