09/26/2025 – A Good Soldier of Jesus Christ

Scripture: Joshua 5: 13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” 14 So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” 15 Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.

Reflection: When Joshua walked alone around the walls of Jericho, he witnessed what is most likely a Christophany. He saw a man with a sword who called Himself the Commander of the army of the Lord. Joshua fell on his face and worshipped Him. Joshua asked for marching orders. The Lord was there to let Joshua know that he would not, he could not conquer the promised land alone. He would only conquer with the Commander of the Lord’s army at the lead. He needed His strategy, and he needed the army of the Lord. As you contemplate your challenges, look for the Commander to provide you with the strategy for victory!

He had been at the walls forty years before… he was ready, the Lord was ready, but the army was not ready. He needed to wait patiently and work with the people of God. He needed to trust the Commander of the army of the Lord to prepare His people for victory.

We relate to Christ through multiple relationships. He is our savior, our healer, our provider. These are relationships through which we receive something from Him. There are other relationships through which we serve Him. He is our Lord, so we are His servants. He is the Commander of the Lord’s armies, and we are soldiers of Christ.
