08/07/2025 – Christ Removed our Shame
Scripture: Hebrews 12: 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Reflection: Our Lord endured shame. He was stripped of his clothing. They mocked Him. The bible warns against those who mock the vulnerable. The first Psalm warns us to never participate in the mocking of others.
The crown of thorns was meant to mock Him as king. The title on the cross: King of the Jews, was meant as an insult. The greatest shame He had to endure was the apparent denial of His sonship. It seemed that He could not be the Son of God and have the curse of our sin upon Him. But Christ remained confident of who He is! There is no greater shame than the cross of Christ, yet on it, He achieved the greatest victory. The Lord did not regard the mocking. The shame of the cross did not deter Him. It did not diminish His trust in the Father and His identity as the Son of God!
The Lord did not allow mocking to embitter Him. He remained confident in who He is. He endured mocking and overcame our shame. He took our shame and gave us His honor.
