08/05/2025 – Christ is our Advocate
Scripture: 1 John 2: 1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
Reflection: The Lod Jesus acts as a defense attorney on behalf of the children of God. When we sin, and we do, we can go to Him in repentance. Christ offers to cleanse us from our sin, and He intercedes for us before our heavenly Father.
It is a difficult case because in one sense we are guilty. The devil has evidence to accuse us. But Christ presents the evidence of His sacrifice on the cross for us. Based on the price He paid, Christ demands that we are declared not just forgiven but also justified. He declares us righteous before God though our faith in Him. Christ demands that we receive double honor as children of God.
Christ never loses a case. He works effectively to save us. He does not need to convince the Father, who knows all things. Nor is He trying to convince the devil. He is trying to convince us that we are saved by grace through faith in Him. Are you convinced?
