04/10/2025 – God’s Pity Saves Sinners
Scripture: Jonah 4: 11 And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left—and much livestock?”
Reflection: Our God is furious against evil! He will destroy with holy vengeance everything and everyone that conspires against justice and truth, against God and against His people! But before He does that, He will extend mercy. Nineveh is no strange name to us. We are familiar with the testimony of Jonah. He could not understand the mercy of God, sending him to preach to the people of this evil city. They were the menace of the world. Ever since Cain decided to build the first city, they became centers of sin, where evil multiplied. Cities are filled with sin and injustice. This is why God decided to build a heavenly city for His people, whose designer and builder is God!
The people of Nineveh decided to pillage the world. They used violence to plunder and kill, to enslave and conquer. They took ten of the tribes of Israel captive. Granted that God allowed it because of their sin, but that does not excuse Nineveh for its sin.
Yet, God extended His offer of forgiveness. How good is our God that He extends mercy to horrible sinners. He extended mercy to us!
