Hosea 2: 13 I will punish her For the days of the Baals to which she burned incense. She decked herself with her earrings and jewelry, And went after her lovers; But Me she forgot,” says the Lord. 14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her, Will bring her into the wilderness, And speak comfort to her. 15 I will give her her vineyards from there, And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; She shall sing there, As in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt. 16 “And it shall be, in that day,” Says the Lord, “That you will call Me ‘My Husband,’ And no longer call Me ‘My Master,’17 For I will take from her mouth the names of the Baals, And they shall be remembered by their name no more.

God commanded the prophet Hosea to take an unfaithful wife. He had to experience the pain and struggle of a home where there is no faithfulness. He needed to know what it is to love someone who does not respond to his love but seeks love in another. Although Hosea had every right to divorce her, God commanded him to stay with her and to conquer her heart. This is exactly what God has done with us.

The essential element in our covenant relationship with God is love. The primary way we manifest love to God in this covenant is faithfulness.

Has God been faithful to you? I know the answer. God has promised to be faithful to you and He has never failed. He has fulfilled every promise. He has sustained you physically, emotionally and spiritually. Despite all the enemies of your life and even despite your sin, God has been faithful! By His mercies, which are new each morning, you have not been consumed. Great is His faithfulness!

Are you faithful to God? Is it important to God that we are faithful to Him? Christ commands His church in the book of Revelation: be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life!
