11/27/2024 – Overcoming the Enemies of Wisdom – Part II
Proverbs 6: Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, 7 Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, 8 Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. 9 How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— 11 So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.
The book of Proverbs reveals the enemies of wisdom and provides teachings that can equip us to overcome them. One of the enemies of wisdom is laziness.
We can be very diligent to achieve something we want. When we become motivated and passionate about a goal, we can put great effort and even make sacrifices to obtain it. But when it comes to our spiritual life, we tend to neglect our responsibilities and miss precious opportunities.
One summer morning, as I was walking to work, I saw in the distance a group of my coworkers. They were dirty and tired, but they were jumping for joy and shouting: “Overtime! Overtime!”
They had worked all night to restore power after an outage. They did not get to sleep in their beds or see their families that night, but they were joyful because they would be paid extra for their sacrifice.
Work is a blessing, but the word of God warns us not to make material needs our priority. Instead, our Lord Jesus taught us to work for the true bread that gives eternal life, the word of God. He said that we need to seek first the kingdom of God, and our Father in heaven will provide for all our needs.
We must be diligent to pray, study God’s word and serve God while there is still time. Now is the time to make treasures in heaven. Sooner or later this life will end and those who served God faithfully will receive an eternal reward.
