05/23/2024 – Love Requires a Decision
1 Kings 18: 21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.
Love requires a decision. It leads to singularity. You cannot have it both ways- either you love God alone or you forsake God and serve a god of your own choosing. You are free to make that choice, but you cannot continue to serve both.
Elijah demanded a decision from the people of God. God demands a decision from you today. On Mount Carmel, God demonstrated His power over idols. Elijah embarrassed the prophets of Baal, allowing them all the time they wanted to get their god to respond with fire from heaven. Love provides concrete proof. It is more than a feeling…
Has God not demonstrated to you His love? Has God not provided concrete proof of His love to you? What proof of love have you received from any other God? When Elijah prayed, fire descended from heaven and burned the sacrifice on the altar of God. The people shouted: Jehovah is God!
Elijah demonstrated the love of God that will destroy sin and will not allow it to destroy His people. God’s love has made the supreme sacrifice and it will also demand a decision from us. It will demand that we renounce and destroy the dominion of sin in our lives.
