02/19/2024 – The Power of a Godly Decision

Ruth 1: 16 But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God. 17 Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.”

There are many factors that go into making a godly decision. Naturally, before you make an important decision, you must consider finances. It would be irresponsible not to. You must take risk into account. But the most important factor you must consider when making a godly decision… is love.

Ruth made one of the best and most important decisions ever made…and the overwhelming factor in her decision was love. Her love of God and her love for her mother-in-law. Her words are forever written in the hearts of the people of God when she expressed as firmly as anyone could: “The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.”

A decision based on the love of God will break down barriers. Ruth was a Moabite. Her people were forbidden from the congregation of Israel. But the love of God in her was able to break down every barrier.

Now, contrary to what the world teaches, a decision based on God’s love is NEVER a risk, much less a losing proposition. We see great risks in making decisions based on love because they require selflessness. We must be selfless. Love is NOT self-serving (1 Corinthians 13: 5) Ruth was convinced that staying with her mother-in-law was the right decision, therefore it would result in blessing. Doing what is right may be difficult, but it always results in blessing!
