11/29/2023 – Our God is a Man of War!
Exodus 15: Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!
2 The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him. 3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name.
It took the people of God 400 years in slavery to be ready to leave Egypt. It was not until they experienced the pain of slavery for that long that they cried out to God with all their hears for the freedom of the children of God. Let me ask you, have you not suffered enough from the pain this world inflicts. Have they not lied to you enough, abused you enough? It is time for us to cry out to the Lord and to desire with all our hearts to be rid of our chains of sin, to enjoy the freedom of the children of God!
But what makes our Exodus so difficult is that not only do we need to desire to leave the slavery of this world…but this world will not release us without a fight. No enslaver ever accepts the right to freedom and equality without a fight. But we have a God who is a warrior (Exodus 15:3) for the freedom of His people. He will fight against, He will destroy anyone who tries to enslave His people. Christ died and rose again to set you free! He will not allow the devil, the world, not even death itself to keep you from achieving His purpose for you!
Moses had only recently learned the name of God: I am that I am. Now Moses has experienced the first title that he attaches to the name of God: Jehovah is a man of war!
Moses and his sister Miriam lead the entire people of God in song to celebrate God’s victory. God could have, of course, overpowered Egypt instantly. He did not need ten plagues. He did not need one plague. But God wanted to demonstrate His power in teaching the enslavers that He is God; He is the one who owns us and gives us freedom.
