11/08/2023 – Settle in the Place God Chose for You

Numbers 32: The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock. 2 So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said,

4 the land the Lord subdued before the people of Israel—are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock. 5 If we have found favor in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.”

Among the gravest mistakes made by men of God is choosing the wrong place to settle. We are reminded of Lot, who settled his family near the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Their future was forever changed because of this wrong decision.

After God guided His people through the desert for forty years to give them the Promised Land, some of the tribes decided to settle somewhere else. They saw the land east of the Jordan river and they decided that this land would be better for them. They asked: Do not make us cross the Jordan. How disappointing. They got their wish; but they never achieved the blessings God had prepared for them on the other side of the Jordan. These tribes ended up far from God.

We read in the Gospels about the land of the Gadarenes. This is where the Gadites settled. This is the land where Jesus cast out the Legion of demons from the man who lived among the tombs. He allowed them to go into a herd of swine These pigs took a fatal dive over the cliff and into the sea where they drowned. The people asked Jesus to leave their land. They valued their swine more than our Lord.

You must never settle for anything less than the purpose of God for your life. You must desire God’s purpose so much that you are willing to face any obstacle and overcome by the power of Christ!
