08/16/2023 – Remember Jesus Christ
2 Timothy 2: 8 “Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself”
What is the goal of evil? It is not simply to exist. Evil wants to reign. The devil is not content to damage your life- it wants to rule your life. The devil would rather rule over you than kill you. If it cannot dominate you, then it will try to kill you. This was the pattern the devil followed in the temptation of our Lord Jesus. Sin wants to dominate your life, your relationships. It does not just want to sour your marriage. It wants to dominate it! The devil is not content to fool the nations. It wants to rule them! Evil wants to destroy what is good and rule the world!
The good news is that Jesus also wants to reign. He wants to lead in your life. The human heart is the most contested place on earth. The king of Kings has chosen your heart as His throne. He wants to reign in your life, in your home. He wants to reign over this world. My faith is on our Lord Jesus. He will overcome, and He will reign!
Never forget that Christ is king. This is the command from the Apostle Paul for Timothy and for us. Paul specifically reminds us of the lineage of Christ directly from David. When Gabriel appeared to Mary, He promised her that the child she would bear would sit on the throne of His father David. It is one of our greatest blessings that our Lord Jesus reigns not only in heaven. He reigns on this earth, on the throne established by God through David.
