10/05/2026 – Honor the Glory of God
Scripture: 1 Samuel 2: 12 Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the Lord. 13 And the priests’ custom with the people was that when any man offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fleshhook in his hand while the meat was boiling. 14 Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; and the priest would take for himself all that the fleshhook brought up. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there. 15 Also, before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who sacrificed, “Give meat for roasting to the priest, for he will not take boiled meat from you, but raw.”
Reflection:
When we treasure someone, we must honor them. God is worthy of honor. The priests were dishonoring God with their sin. Some of the most painful manifestations of the wrath of God came because they dishonored the throne of God. We remember the two sons of Aaron who were killed in the Tabernacle. Uzza, who reached out to try to protect the throne of God, died instantly. Through it all, the wrath of God was kindled, but the glory of God remained. However, there is a warning of what can happen when we attempt to use the glory of God to do our will. The children of Eli committed abominable sins in the presence of God
The priests were taking from the offerings to God. The root of the sin of abomination is seeking to honor ourselves above God. Eli loved his sons more than God. His sons loved themselves more than God. They would take the fat parts of the offerings to fatten themselves. They even took advantage of their position to abuse the women that went to the house of God. These abominations would result in death, and the glory of God would be taken from them.
Our Lord Jesus honors the Father perfectly. By His sacrifice, the glory of God will remain with us forever.
