09/21/2026 – Choose to Serve God
Scripture: Joshua 24: 14 “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Reflection: God commanded His law to the sun and the stars, and they follow God’s instructions from the beginning of creation. This is why Psalm 19 says that the heavens declare the glory of God.
Not so with humans. We must choose to love and serve God. We can choose to love and serve ourselves or anyone else.
Notice the instructions from Joshua to the people of God. He is commanding them to serve the Lord only and to get rid of the false gods that are part of their traditions. Joshua first recounted how God delivered them out of Egypt and out of the hands of all the peoples in the promised land. The only logical, right choice would be to abandon those false gods and to serve the only true God.
Joshua challenged them: if you do not want to serve God, then you must choose whom you will serve. Today, we face many choices. We can follow old traditions or the currents of the new age. We can serve the gods of this age—vanity, money, and power. But I hope you have chosen to love and serve the Lord your God.
