06/24/2026 – Living by Faith
Hebrews 11:8-12 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she[b] considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
Reflection:
We receive everlasting life only through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. The first woman whose faith is presented as an example to the church is Sarah. Her work of faith was receiving the strength to conceive despite being barren. God gave her a promise beyond her reach. God’s promises are difficult for us to believe because they are fulfilled beyond our abilities.
Sarah was one of seven women in the Bible who are listed as barren and conceived by the power of God. What is even more amazing is that God fulfilled His promise after Sara had given up waiting. The reason we have faith is that God is faithful to His name even if we are unfaithful! He cannot deny Himself!
We are, by nature, barren. We are incapable of producing the love that is the fruit of the Spirit of God. Our natural love is stained by sin, so it becomes conditional and limited. The seed of the word of God cannot produce a harvest in us. We cannot radiate life because we do not have life in ourselves. By nature we are marked for death. But God has promised that in Christ we will be fruitful! We will produce a harvest of the fruit of the Spirit! We will produce a harvest of souls for the kingdom of God!
God used Sarah’s faith to bring so many into the kingdom of God that they are only compared to the stars in the sky and the grains of sand by the seashore. The power of God through your faith is impossible to measure. When you act on life-giving faith, you become an instrument to radiate life to your children, your children’s children and to people you will not even know!
