12/23/2025 – The Perfect Storm

Scripture: Isaiah 7: 1 Now it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to make war against it, but could not prevail against it. 2 And it was told to the house of David, saying, “Syria’s forces are deployed in Ephraim.” So his heart and the heart of his people were moved as the trees of the woods are moved with the wind.

Reflection: King Ahaz needed the Lordship of Christ more than ever. He was facing the perfect storm. He was at a point in his life that would determine the future of the people of God. King Ahab had a powerful external enemy. The king of Syria had decided to use his power to destroy Judah. But King Ahab also had an enemy within his people. That is even worse. Ten of the twelve tribes of Israel had joined against the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. Their king and the king of Syria joined forces to conquer Jerusalem. Their plan was to remove king Ahab to set up a king of their choice, who would make the people of Judah their servants.

What completed the perfect storm is that King Ahab was not a good king. He did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord. He served the god of his enemies, and he even offered his children as a sacrifice to those gods to save his kingdom.

God continues to care for His people, even amid the perfect storm. When everyone and everything seems to turn against us, we realize that Christ is the only one who is always faithful, and that He is all we need for salvation.
