11/24/2025 – Do Not Despise Small Beginnings
Scripture: Zechariah 4: 10 For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”
Reflection: A long time ago, a small child lost father and mother and became a newspaper delivery boy. He would see a lady reading a book every day on a rocking chair at the house across the street from the newspaper office. Months went by, and one day he could not contain his curiosity any longer. He asked the lady what that book was she never could finish or put down. She gave him the book: the Bible. The boy was my father. My mom and our family came to Christ, and all serve God and preach the gospel. That old lady could not travel or preach to multitudes, but God used her to bring salvation to us.
God loves to accomplish great victories with small things, to achieve great ends with small beginnings. We should never despise the weak and small, for God will use them and perfect His power in them. Zerubbabel was a descendant of king David, but he was no king David. He did not have fame or resources. The Persian king had named him governor of Judah when the captives returned from Babilon after seventy years of captivity. Yet, God would use this man to restore His people.
What will God do today in your life with your weakness and small actions of obedience and faithfulness?
