06/13/2025 – No Longer Adrift
Scripture: Exodus 2: 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. 5 Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. 6 And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”
Reflection:
Not only Moses… every child is born under a sentence of death. The same forces who conspired against Moses and the people of God are at work today. But also, the God of Moses is the same God we have today! He has overturned your death sentence and has proclaimed a sentence of life over you through our Lord Jesus Christ! God is calling on people today to be the instruments of His love. We have a choice: we can obey the king of Egypt or we can be instruments of life. With our actions we can help carry out the sentence of death or the sentence of life!
Many people in Egypt surely participated in the sentence of death. The king said so. It is the law. They considered themselves law-abiding citizens. Many others did nothing. They considered this a better option- have nothing to do with it. Not my problem. But there were a few who heard God’s call to participate in the sentence of life!
God provides security in the midst of danger! No, it is not safe in this world. God will not remove every danger from your path. But He will be with you. You must pass through the waters. You must walk through the fire. God will right every wrong. He will defeat every enemy to save you. We see that while Egypt oppressed Israel more and more, they increased. Injustice against you has the opposite effect. The river that was supposed to drown you, will instead lead you to God’s purpose!
