06/10/2025 – Instruments of God’s Protective Love

Scripture: Exodus 1: 15 Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; 16 and he said, “When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive.

Reflection: The midwives had a command to kill the innocent and vulnerable children of God. The king wanted to make it look natural. They would not go along with it. They found a way, even at the risk of their own lives. And God was pleased with them. They feared God, and decided to obey God rather than man, even if they had to risk everything. Our first barrier is the fear of the Lord. It is the beginning of wisdom. But the king would not be deterred. He commanded that every male child must be thrown in the Nile.

Dare to defy the commands from the kings of this world for injustice and harm. The victory of the children of God has always resulted from obeying God rather than men. Our submission to authority is conditioned to the love of God. The liberation of the people of God from slavery began with the hiding of a child from the forces of evil. Two women performed a labor of love and decided to obey God rather than man.
