04/11/2025 – A Convincing Sign

Scripture: Matthew 12: 38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” 39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Reflection: The scribes and Pharisees challenged Christ to convince them. They asked for a sign. The Lord told them that the convincing sign was already given: the sign of Jonah who was in the belly of a fish for three days and three nights. This sign would be fulfilled in the life of our Lord Jesus, who was in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights to rise from the dead and bring to full assurance of faith all who are His! Has He convinced you? In His death and resurrection, has Christ fully persuaded you to follow Him? To serve Him?

Every child of God must come to their own moment of conviction, and the only way we can get there is to be led there by the hand of God. I can’t convince you. No one can – only God. Jonah knew the desire of God. He knew the purpose and the calling of God. But he was not convinced. Jonah had objections that kept him from being fully persuaded to obey. But God convinced Jonah to obey.

Has that happened to you? Are there objections in your heart that are keeping you from the purpose of God? Remember our Lord Jesus, and the sign that He has provided. What He has done is enough to save you.
