04/09/2025 – God’s Wrath Against Evil
Scripture: Nahum 1: The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. God’s Wrath on His Enemies 2 God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; The Lord avenges and is furious. The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves wrath for His enemies; 3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet.
Reflection: The book of Nahum reveals an attribute of God that is least popular: His wrath. People in the world accept the love of God. They even demand it. But they do not accept and do not understand the wrath of God. But the children of God know that our God is love AND is a consuming fire. We do not attempt to select the attributes of God that are agreeable to us to make an idol of our liking. The worst form of idolatry is the attempt to deny the true character of God.
God’s wrath is holy! God’s wrath is perfect! He places it in reserve, and He uses it at the right time. He is not like us, who are easily provoked to anger and use it quickly to make our point and get our way. God is slow to anger. He will allow His enemies to perform and even complete their iniquity. He will offer mercy and forgiveness. God only uses His anger to eradicate evil.
Our Lord Jesus has saved us from the wrath of God. He did this by taking God’s righteous anger upon Himself! God’s wrath is not for us. He has reserved His wrath for His enemies, and He has appointed us for salvation in Christ!
