02/18/2025 – Preparing to Serve

Eddy De La Hoz   -

Scripture: Luke 2: 45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” 49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

Reflection: Our Lord was only twelve years old. His ministry would not begin until He was thirty years old. But He was already at work. He was asking questions. He was learning scripture to find out what the Father expects. If the Son of God was so diligent, how much more do we need to search the scriptures and not to rely on our desires or the ways of the world, or even our own spiritual perception?

If anyone could rely on a spiritual connection with the Father, that was our Lord Jesus. Yet He said: I must prepare. I must learn from others who have studied the word of God.
We invest many years preparing to enter the business world. We make an effort to get good grades in school and to get the best job possible. This is good and necessary. But above all, we must be about the business of our heavenly Father. His business is saving the lost and blessing those who receive His love. Devote your life primarily to the business of God.
