Scripture: Psalms 107: 25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up the waves of the sea. 26 They mount up to the heavens, They go down again to the depths; Their soul melts because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits’ end. 28 Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses.29 He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. 30 Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven. 31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
Reflection: God not only stops the storm- He commands it. He is the one who raises it. There is no challenge you will ever face that is beyond the sovereignty of God. He is in control when the storm rages. It’s terrifying to think that we could be in the midst of a problem that God has nothing to do with. It is comforting to know that the storms we face were raised by His will. He will not let the waves get any higher than they need to be, or the wind get any stronger than necessary for our edification and salvation. We will suffer for a little while, but at the right time, He will appear and bring salvation! He allows the storm so that we will cry out to Him! So that we will seek Him! Then He will save us from our troubles!
The expression: “at their wits’ end” comes originally from this verse in the Bible. It means that you do not know what else to do. This is the moment you realize that you do not have enough wisdom, enough resources, enough strength to save yourself. This is when you place all your hope only in the Lord. Are you at the point of desperation? Cry out to the Lord your God. He has promised to hear your prayer and to deliver you from all your troubles. He has promised to give you amazing peace, and to guide you to the place of blessing.
