11/01/2024 – Sing to the Lord!
James 5: 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.

The main purpose of our joy must be to glorify God: to worship and serve Him cheerfully. God is not only the cause of our joy…He is the reason and purpose of our joy. The joy of the Lord is our strength…to work, to praise, to preach with joy! There is a sadness that isolates us and keeps us from enjoying the blessings God has provided. There is a sadness that keeps us from celebrating God and what He has done. We are told to rejoice in the Lord always, not just so that we feel good, but that we always worship and serve God with gladness and strength!
Few are gifted with the talent of a beautiful singing voice. It is one of the most appreciated talents in the world. But we are all given the ability and commanded to sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord. The perfect melody does not come out of the mouth, but the heart.
Ephesians 5: 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God does not only command us to sing- as with all commandments, He provides the means to fulfill it. God has given us His Spirit so we can worship in spirit and in truth. He has provided the Psalms to teach us how to sing to Him.
