08/28/2024 – The Lordship of Christ Overcomes our Selfishness.
Mark 11: Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2 and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it. 3 And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.” 4 So they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it. 5 But some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?” 6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go.
Christ overcomes our selfishness with His Lordship!
They naturally asked: why are you untying the colt? The Lord had anticipated this question, and He may have told them to ask permission first. But He wanted us to know that He is Lord. Do not expect the Lord to ask you for permission to take what belongs to Him, and to do what He needs to do when He needs to do it. We must live by God’s expectations – not our own.
The answer was: The Lord needs it! Serving God requires constant readiness to give. He may visit at any time. Two disciples showed up unannounced. Most of us like everything planned, or at least advance warning. God has already told us that everything belongs to Him and He may take it at any time. When God takes something that He has given us to care for, we can be sure that this is the greatest use for it. The reason we keep anything is for His glory.
Christ triumphs over pride with humility! The root of rejection is pride. A servant of God on a donkey is more powerful than an army on horses!
