04/26/2024 – There is only one way, Christ!
1 Samuel 25: 17 Now therefore, know and consider what you will do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household. But he is such a worthless fellow that no one can speak to him.”v18 Then Abigail hurried and took 200 loaves, two bottles of wine, five dressed sheep, five measures of roasted corn, 100 cakes of raisins, and 200 cakes of figs, and put them on donkeys. 19 Then she said to her young men, “Go on ahead of me—see, I am coming after you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal. 20 As she was riding on the donkey and going down by the hidden pass of the mountain, behold, David and his men were coming down towards her, so she met them.
Abigail was a woman who faced the destruction of her home because of her husband’s foolishness. David came to destroy her house and Abigail needed to go out to meet David to save it. She did not take the main road. She knew David wouldn’t come there. She found a hidden path in the woods. It was a secret path. On this path, Abigail and David met, and Abigail got David’s forgiveness for her foolish husband. What a beautiful image of Christ’s encounter with the church.
I want to tell you today that there is a hidden path. The world does not know this path, it does not recommend it. It is not easy to find or to take. It is a narrow, steep, and difficult trail. There’s nothing seemingly flashy about it, and that’s why few find it. That way is Christ. He said: I am the way, and the truth and the life…This world prefers a wide, comfortable path, where vanity reigns. Many are on that path today.
Finding the secret path was Abigail’s only chance to save her life and her home. There is one thing that shows us that God’s purpose is being fulfilled in Abigail’s life: David comes to meet her on this very path. If you take the path that this world offers, it is likely that during life you will find pleasures, fun, entertainment; you may find money and well-being. But you can be sure that at the end of that path you will not find salvation.
Christ has already taken the narrow path to come to meet you, the way of sacrifice for love, and if you choose that path, you will meet Him there.
