02/20/2024 – Look for God’s kingdom

Judges 21: 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes

After the death of Joshua, when Israel conquered the promised land, the people of Israel lived without a king for hundreds of years. The book of judges relates how difficult life was without a king. It sums up the explanation for all their troubles in one sentence, in the last verse of the book of Judges: In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

The greatest need of every nation on this earth, the greatest need in this world is the kingship of Jesus. The only hope for this fallen world is not in more education, more resources, more philosophies, or politics. The only hope for this world, and for every person on the face of this earth is in the lordship of Christ. Until Christ reigns, there will be suffering, injustice and death; but when He comes to reign, and He is returning soon, death will be no more. Injustice will cease.

The good news is: He is coming soon. Every year, the world’s calendar is filled with events that are signs of His return. The challenge for the church is that the establishment of His kingdom requires our participation- not because God needs us; but because God has chosen to work through His people to establish His kingdom on this earth.

The people of God came to realize and became convinced that to survive as a nation, they needed a king; but few were able…few were willing to participate in the establishment of the kingdom of Christ. Nevertheless, God worked with the few who responded to His call, and the throne of Christ was established forever.
