01/06/2023 – Do not Miss your Calling

Eddy De La Hoz   -

Jeremiah 1: 4 4 The word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

After preaching a sermon early in my ministry, I received words that I believe was meant as a compliment, but actually shook me to my core and became one of those moments forever stamped in your memory. One of the most faithful ladies in the congregation asked me what I did for a living. When I answered, she told me: I think you missed your calling.

I don’t think she had any idea how much she scared me. I heard the call of God very early in my life. I had this feeling that God wanted me to serve Him. Others noticed it and they would tell my parents. I was called “the little pastor” and I did not like carrying the weight of that responsibility at an early age. When the time came to choose a profession, I seriously considered seminary. But I received advice to seek a profession first so that I could make a better living. I had seen my pastors struggle, and I had sat in meetings where people in the congregation expressed their conviction that those who work for God are not to enjoy a dignified living from their ministry. God bless those who invest in His kingdom, for many who complain about tithings and offerings gladly pay for entertainment and boast about their luxuries.

I thank God that there is sovereignty in His call. In spite of my choices, my mistakes, the call of God is a reality in my life. I am not unique- this is true for you as well. Today I want to proclaim and glorify God because even though our decisions have consequences, the most significant factor in our future is the call of God. He knew you before you were born. He set you apart for His glory. He called you. Therefore, the most important action you can take for your future is to submit to His call.
