09/07/2023 – Do Not Forget Any of God’s Benefits – Part 1
Psalms 103: 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgives all thine iniquities; who heals all thy diseases; 4 Who redeems thy life from destruction; who crowns thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfies thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

David provides a list of benefits he has received from God. He does not want to forget any of God’s blessings. There were a lot of positive affirmations David may have made about himself. He does not say: you were chosen over your seven brothers, nor does he say: you killed Goliath with one stone. He does not say: you are a gifted musician. The heart of his meditation is the mercy of God. David proclaims that although he may bloom like a flower, in due time, he will wither and pass. All victories we win on our own are only temporary. God’s victories are eternal.
We must take notice that each of these benefits are received after facing some difficulty. God forgives us after we have sinned. He heals us after we have been sick. God is not promising a life without trouble. David is not just praising God for keeping him out of trouble. He is praising God because He has redeemed him from all his troubles. There are five specific benefits of the mercy of God that David preached to himself, and we need to constantly meditate on.
The first benefit is the forgiveness of all our sins. We must bless the Lord primarily because even though we have committed sin and iniquity, He has paid the price to forgive us of them all. We must never take this for granted. Every sin we commit is sufficient to condemn us to eternal torment. But the mercy of God is such that He paid the ultimate price to offer us forgiveness.
