09/05/2023 – Meditate on the Word of God

Eddy De La Hoz   -

Psalms 1: Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

The book of Psalms opens with a revelation of the man who is blessed, who is victorious…the person who prospers in everything. This is really a description that best fits Christ. This person triumphs because they separate themselves from evil. Instead of walking on the path of evil doers, this person MEDITATES in the law of God:

He does not just read the word of God. He meditates on it all the time. The word meditate in the original Hebrew is the word for murmur. It is compared to the murmur of a dove (Isaiah 34:8) which immediately recalls the Holy Spirit. Meditation is the activity of calling to mind, and thinking over, and dwelling on, and applying to oneself, the works and ways and purposes and promises of God…

Meditation on the word of God is one of the most important disciplines for the followers of Christ, and one that we struggle with more than prayer. For us to grow in our faith and in the knowledge of Christ, we must meditate on the word of God.
The world recognizes the power of meditation, specifically the power of self-talk. Some people look in the mirror and pronounce positive affirmations. What others say to you has influence; but what you say to yourself carries more weight. The truth is that there is power and influence in whatever you say to yourself; but nothing compares to the power of the word of God spoken by your inner self. This is what we find David doing throughout the Psalms- proclaiming to himself the word of God. When he was alone and rejected, his strength was the word of God. When no one was there to give him encouragement, he drew strength from the Lord! Thinking about the word, understanding what it means to you and proclaiming it in your life is the powerful action that gives you victory!
