03/04/2022 – Funny but true
Every Sunday before leaving to church my wife always asks me, “James? Did you make sure your zipper is up and your nose is clean?”, to which I sharply respond “Yes! I have checked!”. Not taking my word for it, she insists in thoroughly looking me over. Yes, I know it sounds funny but it’s true, however I must confess that there have been times, after I have carefully reviewed myself in the mirror, I still have failed to pass my wife’s inspection. There have been times I been guilty of having a unproperly tucked shirt, guilty of an unzipped zipper, or having dog hairs or lint on my suit jacket. Utterly scandalous.
James 1:23-25
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.
You may be living your Christian life not knowing what you look like, in God’s spiritual mirror, your totally oblivious and have no clue of your condition. You may be living your Christian life just taking small glimpse into God’s spiritual mirror, His word, then the concerns of this world makes you forget your condition. Lastly you may be living your Christian life not allowing someone to speak into you, someone to tell you look disheveled, someone to tell you your face is dirty spiritually speaking.
But there is a promise for those who look intently at their condition, those who abide and become effectual doer of the word.
Today meditate on this promise: James 1:25 “. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.”
